Mobile Assistant School Cook - Bitterne/Sholing/Thornhill
City Catering are a Charity, that provide great quality, nutritious meals to Primary and Secondary School Children throughout Southampton.
We are looking for an experienced & enthusiastic MOBILE Assistant Cook to support our Head of Kitchen in delivering an amazing catering service to the children and the school. In this role you will be expected to supervise kitchen staff and deputise in the Head of Kitchens' absence.
You’ll be assisting Head of Kitchens across multiple sites within Southampton, encouraging and motivating the teams in delivering excellent customer service to the Schools and the Children.
This role is a very busy one, travelling & providing cover in local schools, juggling a lot of tasks and you’ll be on your feet a lot! But it is also an incredibly rewarding role for the right candidate!

Job Details:
The role is a permanent term time Monday to Friday MOBILE role, covering 20 hours per week and is subject to the applicant's eligibility to work in the UK and a successful DBS clearance.
What Will You Be Doing as a Mobile Assistant Cook?
Assist in the preparation, cooking and service of food
Ensure any transported meals are prepared, cooked and packaged to maximise quality
Assist in special functions, emergency catering and theme days
Implement our special diet and allergen menus and procedures where appropriate
Maintain up-to-date records, where appropriate using the technology provided e.g. temperature checks, cleaning routine, timesheets, meal numbers
Assist in the dining area where appropriate: setting up, clearing away and cleaning of tables and chairs; and cleaning of the dining area floor at the end of service
Washing up, clearing away and general cleaning duties
Understand the financial implication of food preparation, set an example to others by working in ways that minimise waste, control ingredients and resources to reduce the cost per meal
Hourly Rate: £11.92 per hour
(Term Time Only) Weekly Hours: 20Hrs Per Week
Working Hours: Monday to Friday 9.30am-1.30pm
What Do You Need To Have?
Due to the nature of this role, you'll need to hold a driving license with access to your own vehicle. The successful candidate will be expected to work in locations across the whole of Southampton, so the willingness and ability to travel is critical. (Mileage expenses from a central base location are paid)
Experience of supporting a kitchen, preferably in a school setting, and a knowledge of food preparation and cooking including methods, portions, cost control, stock rotation and ordering.
The ability to lead, motivate and manage colleagues well.
A knowledge of common food allergens and special diets.
Numeracy, budgetary skills and literacy in using IT.
Absolute and unquestionable commitment to the Safeguarding of the schools children.
This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and therefore applicants are required to undergo an enhanced DBS check, the cost of which is covered by the Charity.
