City Catering launches Cooking at Home video competition encouraging young people to create their own cooking videos

City Catering is launching a Cooking at Home video competition encouraging young people to create their own short videos cooking a healthy meal from scratch. City Catering will be providing free online resources on their website including recipes.

The competition opens on July 28th 2021 and closes at midnight on 27th August 2021. The winners will be decided by the City Catering judging panel and all entrants will be notified of the result on or before Friday 10th September 2021.

The competition is open to anyone living in Southampton, Hampshire. City Catering is particularly keen to receive entries from young people, and those under 18. For those under 13, parental consent is required.

Videos can be created on a mobile device or camera and City Catering will be providing free filming and editing tips as well as guides on the best ways to edit video content using free resources.

There will be a hamper of cooking and media related prizes for the winner, and the runner up. Prizes include filming gadgets, cooking equipment and recipes books.

The competition will have four judges including Masterchef winner Shelina Permalloo:

“I’m so excited to be supporting Southampton’s Cooking at Home Project, I’m passionate about young people learning these essential skills which will help them in the future, it will also contribute to a positive outcome to health and well-being. It makes sense to be involved as I was born and raised in Southampton as well and I’m passionate about the city”

The judging panel will also feature Carswell Gould’s Gareth Hughes and Harvest Fine Food’s Commercial Director Steve Whitham as well as City Catering’s menu development assistant Laura Suanez Aisa who spoke of her excitement to launch the competition:

“We created the Cooking at Home project in the midst of the first wave of the pandemic, as a way to help families cooking healthy meals at home whilst services were not running face to face. As with the whole team at City Catering, I am incredibly passionate about people getting involved in cooking, experimenting in the kitchen and having the tools they need to enjoy delicious, healthy meals. I can’t wait to see what gets created through this competition!”

A link to the competition can be found here, including the full terms and conditions and how to take part.
