We recently shared with you our plea to the Government to fund Free School Meals over the school holidays.

The Government have now confirmed that they will not fund Free School Meals over the forthcoming six-week school holidays.

This is highly disappointing news for families who, in the midst of the pandemic and changing financial pressures, rely on that funding to feed their families.

Our recent survey of over 700 Southampton households has shown increased food insecurity since the pandemic - meaning more households are less likely to eat balanced meals or the recommended portions of fruit and vegetables, and more likely to skip meals or reduce the size of the meals. This is deeply concerning.

So, what are we doing to help?

We are working hard behind the scenes applying for funding to enable us to provide support and food to families in need this summer. Our teams are also developing a 'cooking at home with City Catering' program to support all families enjoy good food. We can't wait to share our plans!

Due to the impact of Covid-19, we are reliant on grants and donations to fund our summer holiday support programs. Therefore, we are also appealing to you to help.

Until September, all money raised through our quiz packs will go towards supporting families at risk of food poverty in the summer holidays as part of our Lunch Crowd initiative.
