Homemade Tortillas

Delicious and easy to make at home tortillas. Perfect recipe to get the children involved! Ideal for wraps, enchiladas, fajitas, burritos & soft tacos

Prep time: 15 minutes / Cooking time: 10 minutes

Makes 6-20cm tortillas

INGREDIENTS:

  • 260g flour

  • 1 pinch of salt

  • 160ml warm water

  • 4 tbsp vegetable oil

METHOD:

1.     Add flour, salt & oil to a large bowl and mix well. Add the warm water and mix until it comes together.

2.     Transfer to a floured surface and knead until smooth, 4 to 5 minutes. If the mixture seems too dry add a little more water. Cover with a clean cloth and leave to rest for at least 15 minutes.

3.     Divide the dough into 6 equally sized pieces, then shape them into balls.

4.     Using a rolling pin, roll out each ball into 20cm/7.5inch ‘rounds’, the thinner the better! Do not worry too much if they are not perfect!

5.     Heat a large heavy bottom frying pan over medium heat. Cook the tortillas for 1-2 minutes on each side until they have some brown spots and are dry around the edges.

6.     If using them straightaway, transfer to a plate and cover to keep warm. Otherwise, let them cool down & transfer to an airtight container. They will keep for up to 3 days.

TIPS:

✔ You could choose to make the tortillas smaller; they will be much easier to do.

✔  Perfect to cook ahead and just reheat for a few seconds in the microwave before using.

✔  Very child friendly recipe. Let them make their own tortillas!

✔  You could add some flavour to them like dried herbs or seeds from your cupboard.
